 The Koshare Foundation, incorporated in 2009, was established to support and sustain the Koshare Museum and Koshare Youth Group. This unique Scout Troop, museum, theater, youth program and long history they have created are a worthy cause. An organization that inspires youth to build good character and become solid citizens.


The Koshare Foundation is made up of alumni, family and friends of the Koshare museum and Scouting program. Trustees of the Foundation are spread out across the United States. Members are from several generations and varied professional backgrounds, but are all dedicated to the long-term sustainability of this special organization.

SUSAN PERRY - TRUSTEE

Susan Perry (Suzi Powell) is a fourth generation La Junta native whose family has a long history with the Koshare organization.  Susan's father, John M. Powell was an Eagle Scout and along with her mother, Peggy Powell, became lifelong supporters of the Koshare program.  Her grandfather, John D. Powell, was a Key Leader.  Susan recently relocated back to the La Junta area and works remotely as a Sales Leadership Development professional.

CRISSY RUMFORD - TRUSTEE

The only granddaughter of renowned Native American artist Woody Crumbo. A powerful influence on her youth and life Woody was also a respected mentor for the Koshare programs.  Crissy was dedicated to volunteerism from an early age.  Holding many certifications in her Real Estate career.  CRS, RSPS, AHWD, C2EX, ABR, she also serves in appointments to local, state and national committees and is a certified NAR mediator.  She is a Vice President with LivSothebys Real Estate firm in Denver, Colorado.  

KAREN SUE SARLO- TRUSTEE

La Junta Colorado native.  BA Communications, University of Colorado, Boulder.  Career working with government agencies. Returned to La Junta and served as Koshare Museum Director.  Retired. Served on the Koshare Foundation 3 years and has returned to serve again. Residence Colorado

Katherine Shand Larkin - 2009 - 2013

First President and Chair for Koshare Foundation.  A native of La Junta, Colorado, a 1973 graduate of Otero Junior College and 1978 graduate of University of Colorado School of Law.  Retired from a 31-year practice of law, specializing in labor relations and safety/health defense litigation.  She has served as Chair of the Leadville Music Festival and Salida/Aspen Concert Series. A dedicated leader with a passion for the Koshare Museum and youth programs.  Working for the success of each young man and woman in the Koshare program, the lower Arkansas Valley and its residents.   Residence Colorado.

Art O. Wilkonson - 2009 - 2011

First Vice President of the Koshare Foundation.  Practicing attorney in the Denver Colorado metro area.  Law practice focuses on tax, business and estate planning.  Member of Colorado, Kansas and Utah bar associations.   Residence Colorado.

James Dillard - 2009 - 2019

Eagle Scout - AA Mesa State College, BA University of Colorado, MS and graduate studies Stanford University.  Peace Corps 1962.  International career in finance, marketing, development programs.  Asia Foundation, San Francisco, Agriculture Development Council, New York, UNICEF China.  Global marketing and public relations.   "Walking On" 

Herb Booth - 2009 - 2014

Eagle Scout -  A native of La Junta, Herb took his early interest and natural talent in art to a lifelong career.  Loving the outdoors, hunting and fishing, his well-known art depicted amazingly realistic and dramatic scenes.  Herb was a charter member foundation trustee.  "Walking On".

SALLY BUIKEMA - 2009 - 2024

A Native daughter of La Junta, Colorado.  BA University of Denver, Graduate Studies University of Arizona, US Government SES Former Principal Deputy Liaison - Office Nat'l Drug Control Policy, White House Consultant.  Virginia.   Sally was our longest serving, truly dedicated member of the Koshare Foundation.  She will be missed by all.  "Walking On", November 2024.

Judge Michael Jon Kolomitz (Retired) 2010 - 2016

Eagle Scout - Graduate University of Colorado Law School.  Long time attorney and judge in Colorado District Court, Sixteenth Judicial District.  Koshare Museum Board Chairman, Former Secretary Koshare Foundation. - Residence Colorado

Eagle Scout - BS Colorado State University, Pueblo. Electronics Engineering.  Career at Martin Marietta / Lockheed Martin (Retired).  Projects for U.S. Air Force - D.O.D. - NASA.  Sr. Staff Engineer project Orion.  Former Treasurer for Koshare Foundation  - Residence Colorado
